This was the only action initiated in World War II by either I-157 or Nakashima. The submarine survived the war, was surrendered at the end and disposed of.

Italian Submarines

21 December 1940, the Italian submarine MOCENIGO under the command of CC Alberto Agostini, attacked four ships and claimed two sunk and two damaged. In fact, only the 1,253 ton Swedish steamer MANGEN was sunk. This was the only action initiated by Agostiti in World War II.

14 March 1942, MOCENIGO, now under command of CC Paolo Monechi, sank the 1,518 ton French sailing ship Ste MARCELLE. This was the only action initiated by Monechi in World War II.

19 Nov. 1942, MOCENIGO, now under command of TV Alberto Longhi, reported sinking a steamer at 34° 14'N x 06° 54'E but there was no confirmation.

14 December 1942, MOCENIGO (Longhi) fired torpedoes at the 5,450 ton Royal Navy light cruiser MW ARGONAUT and hit her at the bow and stern, inflicting heavy damage.

30 December 1942, MOCENIGO (Longhi) fired torpedoes at two ships at 37° 16'N x 06° 08'E and claimed damage to both. There was no confirmation.

This was the last attack by MOCENIGO, as she was destroyed at Cagliari, Sardinia by USAAC bombers on 13 May 1943.
