Helping Members to better understand some of the naval terms (both German and English) used in World War II and in our KTB. Kommandant the Commander Knot unit of speed equal to one nautical mile per hour. A nautical mile is equal to 1.1516 statute miles or approximately 1.85 kilometers Korfu the name for a radar detector Kriegsmarine the German Navy of 1935-1945. It translates to literally `War Navy" KTB It is short for Kriegstagebuch which is actually three words (kriegs tage buch) put together to make this one word which means 'ships logbook'. The translation is `war daily book'.
