Italian Submarines

14 August 1940, the Italian submarine MICCA under command of CF Alberto Ginocchio attacked a British destroyer with torpedo north of Alexandria. A heavy detonation was heard after 40 seconds run time, but there was no other confirmation. This was the only action initiated by Ginocchio in World War II.

3 April 1941 MICCA, now under command of CC Guido d'Alterio, reported one ship sunk and another damaged in a torpedo attack. There was no confirmation of either and this was the only action initiated by d'Alterio in World War II.

The Italian submarine PIETRO MICCA (photo) was sunk on 29 July 1943 by the Royal Navy submarine HMS TROOPER.
