Japanese Boats

During the month of August 1944, no I.J.N. submarines were lost.

Italian Boats

During the month of August 1944, no Italian submarines were lost.

German Boats

In the same month, 34 German U-boats were lost - ten of them took their entire crew down with them.

American Boats

In the same month, two American submarines were lost.

USS FLIER was lost 13 August 1944. Only 8 men of her 86-man crew survived.

USS HARDER was lost 24 August 1944. All of her 79man crew perished with the boat. Ironically, she was sunk by a former US Navy four-stack destroyer (USS SPENCER), which had been in the shipyards and overrun by the Japanese and put into ASW work with the I.J.N.
