FRANK served with the US Navy with one year of combat duty in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean. During his last patrol, he became a member of the Prize Crew that boarded the surrendered U-1228. He read the last entry in the radio log, which was the order from GrossAdmiral Dönitz for all German U-boats to surface and surrender. He took the clock from the boat (which he still has) but he also wishes he had kept the radio log. FRANK relieved the Skipper (Oblt. Marienfeld) of command and sent him over to USS NEAL A. SCOTT (DE 769) then raised the I.W.O. (Günther Schüller) to command the boat. They spent six days at sea and FRANK has many a sea story from that time, which we will publish soon in our KTB Magazine.
