It was recently announced that an international group will begin to recover the wreck of the Russian submarine KURSK sometime in April. Naturally, they will focus on recovering the two nuclear reactors and the twenty-two missiles aboard as a priority. The loss of KURSK was the most recent submarine tragedy, and more than 100 of her crew are still on board the submarine. Recovery of the bodies is also a high priority. This group is made up of Russian, Dutch and United States companies and the cost of raising this submarine with giant floating cranes is estimated at somewhere around $70 million US dollars. They anticipate that the project will be completed in August of 2001. We anticipate a ceremony of sorts for the burial of the remains at some time towards the end of 2001. This will at least bring closure to the relatives of this tragedy. We also hope that the Russian Navy and/or the Russian Government will plan a memorial service and a monument for the men who were lost aboard KURSK. We, here at SHARKHUNTERS, will help in every way possible.
