The 11th German U-bootfahrer to win this award was Kapitanleutnant Fritz Frauenheim, Skipper of U-21 and U-101. The award was made on 29 August 1940.
A total of 145 KNIGHTS CROSS awards were given up to 6 June 1945. In fact, there were a few given even months after the end of the war. We have covered some of them in previous issues of our KTB.
