The only Skipper of V-164 was KK Otto Fechner.

U-164 was attached to the 10th U-BootFlottille based at Lorient. Her first war patrol was in the Caribbean over August and September 1942. She was lost on her second war patrol while operating off the northeastern coast of Brazil. There were only two survivors; the other 54 men were lost.
