Remembering Otto Kretchmer

OTTO KRETSCHMER (122-+-1985) is remembered by WILLIAM NAPIER (2290-C/LIFE-1992) as he writes:
"It is with profound sadness I read of RADM KRETSCHMER's passing. May his soul rest in the arms of our Dear Lord for eternity."

KTB #136 last month was the first in which we devoted an entire page to our Member's comments. As mentioned in that issue, our files are bulging with the kind comments from our Members around the globe. Here are some more:

On reading of the loss of OTTO KRETSCHMER (122-+-1985), BOB van ALMSICK (5577-1998) wrote.
"I appreciated your tribute to OTTO KRETSCHMER."
BOB was with us on our recent tour to Germany, and he writes:
"My wife was angry because she had never seen me look so happy as I did in the pictures! The conversations with fellow travelers was enjoyable as were the sites. You don't normally have so many knowledgeable people to talk with at one time."

HARRY's NOTE - We are going again this September. Watch your mail for the announcement.

MIKE WEBER (3239-1993) a submarine vet, wrote this:
"I cannot wait to receive each magazine, all the articles are well done. Good luck, God bless - and a Green Board."

MIKE TESKE (4507-1996) was just 16 years of age when he joined in 1996. After receiving his first KTB, he wrote:
"I received my first edition of the KTB Magazine and was very impressed at all the information regarding U-boats it contained. Once again, excellent work!!"

As we can see from his Membership Number, BERT BEEBE (2042-1991) has been aboard for quite a while. He writes:
"Thanks again for a great Magazine and I look forward to another great year of reading your Magazine and being a Member of a Great organization - SHARKHUNTERS."

DIGBY TARVIN (4879-1996) wrote from England:
"Thanks for the excellent KTB Magazines."

ED HENDERSON (4920-1996) was with us in Germany this past September, but before that he wrote:
"I do want you to know how much I am enjoying reading my SHARKHUNTERS KTB Magazine. It really is very good, and I love my Membership."

SHARKHUNTERS and the Venezuelan Navy

MAXIMILLIANO GONZANEZ GONZALEZ (4936- 1996) is an officer in the Navy of Venezuela, is a submariner, and is now an instructor in the Submarine School in Venezuela. He wrote.
"We continue to receive the KTB Magazines. Sincerely, it is an excellent information source. We share these with the cadets and a big group are now translating into Spanish in order to file them with the English version in our library. I can find much interesting data that help me to understand greatly the tactics, history and another view (the German side) of the Second World War."

Cdr. EDDIE DANIEL (4803-1996 and ER 577-1996) writes:
"I truly enjoy the SHARKHUNTERS Magazine and always look forward to the next edition. It is so fascinating I wrote to EAGLEHUNTERS and subscribed to them as well. I wish I had subscribed to both years ago!'

Rebuttal

JIM DALEY (5004-A/LIFE-1996) writes:
I do admire SHARKHUNTERS purpose without politics, prejudice or propaganda. So - full marks to KARL KETTLER #4927 for his true rebuttal. Thank you KARL, you made my day!!"

MANFRED RATZKA (5594-1998) wrote:
"The rebuttal that Mr. KARL KETTLER (4927-1996) wrote hit the nail right on the head and I agree with him 100%."

As you see on the last page of our KTB Magazine, the 'Honors' page, TONY GALAZ (959-LIFE-1989) is a Sustaining Member of SHARKHUNTERS. When he sent in his monthly pledge, he wrote.
"Keep up the good work."

GUY GOODBOE (5549-1998) was with us in Germany during our 1998 Treffen. He met the Skippers, and he writes:
"I want to compliment you on the superb issue Of KTB #136. Lots of good information, and the article by Kapt. Heinrich is phenomenal! Keep it up! "

BUD VEATH (1171-1990) is the official historical for the famous cutter UVCGC INGHAM. He writes:
"KTB #136 has some good reading with more information on history. It brings back memories of the thirty-one convoys the Coast Guard cutter INGHAM helped escort across the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean from 1942 - 1944. Semper Paratus!"

In case anyone is not familiar, 'Semper Paratus', the motto of the US Coast Guard, means 'Always Rrepared' (or always ready).

STEVE FLORES (5225-1997) is short and to the point. He writes:
"Thanks! God bless SHARKHUNTERS."

We just can't add anything to that. The wonderful comments from our Members always make this tough job really worthwhile despite the hard work it involves. We love you -- all our Members!

Mrs. ELENORE SCHULZ (162-1986) is a fine lady, and widow of a great U-Boat Commander, WILHELM SCHULZ, Skipper of U-124 the Edelweissboot. She recently wrote:
"I am sending you my most cordial wishes, especially for your good health and success at your work!"

LEN PORTZLINE (1094-1989) writes:
"The postman just brought the KTB. I normally start reading from front to back, but today I paged through and saw your 'Peer Competitors'. I had to put down my income tax preparation, financial statement and stock market report to sit down and read it. I agree with you 100%."

Remember, your comments, questions and suggestions are always welcome here at HQ. And thanks for your solid support!
