HAPPY 14th ANNIVERSARY for SHARKHUNTERS

The month of February 1997 marks the 14th Anniversary for our SHARKHUNTERS. We remember our small beginnings in February of 1983 when we started with about 6 Members in only 2 countries. As we enter our 15th year, we are proud that we are more than 5,100 Members in 65 countries and there is no end in sight. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to all Members!

BEWARE of the INTERNET

Doggone - that almost sounds sacreligious, doesn’t it? The new ‘INFORMATION SUPER HIGHWAY’ is supposed to be the absolute best for everything you need to know about anything. Read on; you will see why this is a very real warning.

OKAY, what did we mean at the beginning of this issue? One of our Members designed a very nice T-Shirt with a U-Boat picture on the front and a listing on the back of the top twenty U-Boat Skippers. Obviously we are not going to identify this Member because we don’t want to cause undue embarrassment. It was a good-looking T-Shirt and a good idea, but the listing of the Skippers was shot through and through with errors; GLARING errors. I called him immediately and asked where he got all this wrong information. He got it from the Internet.

There is no control over the Internet. Anyone can go ‘on line’ with any and all information he or she wishes to put there, but there is no way to be certain that this information is correct and in this case, it was very incorrect. If you were sick, would you consult the Internet for a cure? Probably not - so why take information on the U-Waffe from an amateur. Stick with SHARKHUNTERS for accurate information, and leave the Internet for amateur chit-chat.
