10 Years Ago in our KTB

In KTB #26, we finished the review of the book ‘JAPAN’S SECRET WAR’ by ROBERT WILCOX (25-1984); CAPTAIN JÜRGEN WATTENBERG (154-+-1985) and members of U-162 met in Arizona where they had been prisoners of war; ELSWORTH BOYD (17-1983) did an article in SKIN DIVER Magazine about HUGH DOWNS (141-1985) who’s been a serious diver for years; ELS also wrote about the U-Boat that people in Ft. Lauderdale think is sunk off their city - but there is none; JOHN LOFTUS (40-1984) asked if any intelligence files were taken out of Europe on board U-Boats at the end of the war (he should read the DON ANGEL story!!!); DON PERRYMAN (56-1984) informed us that he was donating all his KTB Magazines to the local public library for their files on German U-Boats; BILL HUGHES (124-1985) sent a copy of the article he did on the dive over U-85.

KTB #26 was only 6 pages long and done on an old typewriter; we have come a long way - a VERY LONG WAY, since then; thanks to all our great Members.

5 YEARS AGO in our KTB

KTB #74 had some great photos - the front cover was the newly refurbished U-505; inside was one of REINHARD HARDEGEN (102-LIFE-1985) holding SEAN PATRICK COOPER (1/2-LIFE-1987), my son who was then only 3 years old. We reported on the cocktail party hosted by JAY SORCI (1101-A-1989) when we had a SHARKHUNTERS COFFEE in Chicago for the book signing of OPERATION DRUMBEAT - there were about 250 Members and guests. We gave the true story of how John F. Kennedy wound up Skippering a PT boat when he really wanted to be in intelligence. We exposed a guy who claimed to be an officer on U-552 to be a total fake. KTB #74 was only 28 pages long.
