The 28th winner of the OAK LEAF CLUSTER to the KNIGHTS CROSS was Kapitänleutnant Rolf Thomsen. He was Skipper of U-1202 and won his KNIGHTS CROSS on 4 January, 1945 then the OAK LEAF CLUSTER on 29 April 1945. He was 28th recipient in the Kriegsmarine, the 845 overall in the Wehrmacht. He ultimately was the Flotillen Chef of the 11th U-BootFlotille based in Bergen, Norway at the end of the war.

He was born 6 May, 1915 in Berlin and was in the Class 1936. He began his career as a naval aviator and served in that capacity from 1939 until 1943, receiving many decorations in that service before going to the U-BootWaffe. His ultimate rank was Kapitänleutnant.
