Type XVII-B3

Profile and History

by Harry Cooper

Another modification to the initial TYPE XVII Walter boat. Basic details of the Type XVII-B3 are the same as the Type XVII-B2 but with the following differences:

    B3 had a double-shaft drive rather than single shaft as B2;
    B3 had 2,500 SHP rather than 1,160 SHP as B2;
    B3 had a speed of 20 knots rather than 15.5 knots as B2;
    B3 carried only 80 tons of Perhydrol rather than 100 tons as B2.

No TYPE XVII-B3 boats were built.
