U-566 departed her 1st U-BootFlotille at Brest on 6 August, 1942. She joined Group BLUCHER which was intended for the Freetown area. She took on fuel from U-653 on or about 23 August in the North Atlantic, then attacked Convoy SL.119 and was damaged during this attack and forced to retire from the battlefield. She returned to France on 5 September, 1942. U-406 departed the 7th U-BootFlotille, based at St. Nazaire, France on 9 August, 1942. She joined Group BLUCHER, intended for the Freetown area. U-406 took on fuel from U-653 on or about 23 August 1942 in the North Atlantic and attacked Convoy SL.118, then separated from Group BLUCHER and joined Group ILTIS. She engaged Convoy SL.119, made a southerly sweep to the north of the Cape Verde Islands with Group ILTIS which dispersed as an operating group approximately 24 September. U-406 took on fuel from U-460 approximately 25 September, 1942 for her return to France. She arrived her homeport on 8 October. U-653, which had given fuel to the above two boats sailed from the 1st U-BootFlotille at Brest on 5 August, 1942 and she joined Group BLUCHER, headed for the Freetown area. She engaged Convoy SL.118, but was damaged and was forced to retire from the battlefield. She gave her excess fuel to U-566 and U-406, then returned to her homeport in France, arriving there 31 August, 1942. U-558 departed the 1st U-BootFlotille at Brest, on 29 July, 1942 & proceeded to the Antilles where she took on fuel from U-462. She then went on to the western Caribbean, then to the eastern Caribbean where she attacked Convoy TAG.5. She then returned to the Antilles and left station approximately 28 September, and arrived her homeport on 17 October, 1942. U-660 departed the 9th U-BootFlotille at Brest on 25 July 1942, she arrived on station 1 August and attacked Convoy SC.95. She joined Group LOHS and engaged Convoy ONS.122, took on fuel from U-174 approximately 29 August then returned to France.
