Kapitänleutnant Heinrich Zimmermann was the only C.O. of U-136.

U-136 was assigned to the 6th U-BootFlotille based at St. Nazaire. This boat had three feindfahrtenen (war patrols). The first was in the North Atlantic where she sank two Royal Navy escorts. Her second was off the American east coast, from New York to Cape Hatteras and Florida in April of 1942. She was operating against a Gibraltar bound convoy to the west of Spain on her third patrol when she was lost.
