DID YOU KNOW?by OBLT ERNST SCHMIDT (10-1983) .....the top Soviet submarine ACE was Captain First Rank I. A. Kolyshkin? He sunk 17 ships in World War II, totaling 115,000 gross tons. (HARRY’s NOTE - it was not uncommon for a Soviet Flotilla Commander to claim all the sinkings of his various submarines and Skippers as his own .) ....the British battleship HMS WARSPITE was attacked no less than 5 times at Narvick (Norway) at the German invasion in April, 1940? In these most favorable conditions, each time the torpedoes missed their target or failed to explode, due to faulty torpedoes. (HARRY’s NOTE - In his audiotaped interviews, OTTO KRETSCHMER 122-LIFE-1985 told of these problems with the German torpedoes. It is generally accepted that if the German torpedoes had not failed, there would have been so many British capitol ships sunk or badly damaged that England would have talked with Germany and settled a negotiated peace. In short, there might not have been WW II if the German torpedoes had performed correctly. So many British capitol ships were hit by dud torpedoes, a good portion of the Fleet would have suffered.)
