U-129 and KOTA PINANG

We received a letter from W. van der BOOGAARD (4476-1995) with a correction to something we published. He writes:

“In KTB #118 you wrote that U-129 rescued the entire crew of the German supply ship KOTA PINANG on October 4th, 1941. I have to correct you on this one, I’m afraid. The KOTA PINANG (7,277 tons) was owned by the Dutch shipping company Rotterdamse Lloyd and was captured between the 10th and 15th of May, 1940 by the Germans when they occupied Holland.

They changed her name to KLARA and fitted her out as a submarine supply-ship. Under her new name she was destroyed on October 3rd, 1941 by HMS KENYA.”

HARRY’S NOTE - Thanks for the correction. It is through Members who catch errors made here that we can maintain the accuracy and honest history of the submarine forces.
