.....in summer 1942 an improved torpedo was introduced with a magnetic proximity fuse? It detonated beneath the hull of a ship causing much greater damage. Ships were ‘lifted up’ and simply broke apart. So torpedoes could be saved.

.....LCDR Jochen Mohr with U-124 sunk on November 24, 1941 in the mid-Atlantic the British cruiser HMS DUNEDIN with 3 torpedoes? It was a long-range shot of over 3 miles, the torpedoes were running 5 minutes & 23 seconds exploding the magazine with one torpedo and hitting the after fire control with another. The cruiser sunk within 30 minutes.

.....the LEONARDO DA VINCI was Italy’s most successful submarine in World War II? It sunk 17 ships for a total of 120,243 gross tons. Her third and last commander, Capitano Gianfranco Gazzana was Italy’s tonnage leader with 12 ships and a total of 94,356 gross tons. He won the German KNIGHTS CROSS of the IRON CROSS.
