Remembering HMS Bedfordshire

Memorial Service

by Harry Cooper

The A/S trawler HMS BEDFORDSHIRE was sunk on 12 May, 1942 by U-558 under Kapitänleutnant Günther Krech off the American east coast. Four of the bodies of the British seamen were recovered and buried in a cemetery on the east coast on the US.

A group of SHARKHUNTERS Members attended a Memorial service on 30 March, for the British sailors who lost their lives that day in May, and placed a wreath in the name of SHARKHUNTERS at the graves of the four British sailors.

The group, led by CDR JIM CHEATHAM (1231-1989) included:

    TOMMY WOOD (4317-1995)
    SURRY ROBERTS (4318-1995)
    BOBBY SHEPARD (4319-1995)
    FRED WOOD (4338-1995)
    BOBBY SAFRIT (4346-1995)
    DONNIE COBB (4403-1995)

Many thanks guys! This is in the true spirit of SHARKHUNTERS.
