2nd U-BootFlotille

Flotilla Commanders

by Harry Cooper

The 2nd U-BootFlotille was a ‘FrontFlotilla’, a combat Flotilla, which moved from Wilhelmshaven in June of 1940 to the massive French base at Lorient. The biggest U-Boat bunkers ever built were here. They were 7 meters thick - that is more than 21 feet of steel reinforced concrete. The offices, barracks - even the rail sidings were under this giant roof. Some of the very best Skippers and most famous boats were part of the 2nd U-BootFlotille.
