S-1 S-1 was a big boat, similar to the TYPE I German boat but a bit larger. This boat was built by the Soviets at Leningrad Shipyard for the Italians, then taken by the Germans and was sunk during the war at Libau. She had two big M.A.N. diesel engines, and carried diesel oil for 20,000 miles. But how sunk was she? S-1 had damage that caused her to take water and she did sink - but the water was so shallow that S-1 just settled a few feet to the bottom and took a starboard list. The boat was not below the water, so it appeared that it would not take a lot to repair the damage and refloat her. There is no record of what happened to S-1 after the war. Was she raised and broken up for scrap? Or was she raised just before the end of the war and used as a ‘BLACK’ boat? Keep reading the story by DON ANGEL on our INTELLIGENCE PAGE for some clues - but if anyone has information on S-1, please let us know. Springbok We asked in KTB #117 last month if anyone had any information on this man, the secret agent who worked for Germany and also for England, possibly directly for Sir William Stephenson. We followed his trail to South Africa, then to South America and finally to Canada. Anyone with information, please contact this HQ. KorvettenKapitän Karl Jasper Where is KorvettenKapitän Karl Jasper? He was Commander of the 25th U-BootFlotilla from July 1944 until the end of the War, but he was never a U-Boat Commander - this is very unusual. Is Karl Jasper living today? More important - where did he go at the end of the War? What did he do after the War? This is of GREAT importance. Please respond.
