The 24th winner of the OAK LEAF CLUSTER to the KNIGHTS CROSS was Kplt. Robert Gysae, Skipper of U-177 and U-98.
Gysae was born 4 January, 1911 in Berlin and was in the Class 1931. His highest rank was KorvettenKapitän. After his stint as a combat Skipper, he was Flotillen-Chef of the 25th U-BoatFlotille. His last posting was as Commander of the 1st Anti-Tank Regiment.
He won his KNIGHTS CROSS 31 Dec., 1941 & his OAK LEAF CLUSTER on 31 May, 1943. He was the 24th U-Boot-Fahrer to win the OAK LEAVES; the 250th recipient in all the Wehrmacht.
