WWII Italian Submarine Navy

1968: Toti Class

The year 1968 was a significant one for the Italian Navy submarine service, for that was the year that the first post war submarines of Italian construction entered service. These were the 4 boats of the TOTI Class. They were:

    ENRICO TOTI (lead ship of the class)
    ATTILIO BAGNOLINI
    ENRICO DANDOLO
    LAZZARO MOCENIGO

Two of these TOTI Class boats are still in service today. They are small boats, designed for Mediterranean conditions.

    Displacement 525/585 tons
    Length 151 feet
    Speed (diesel) 14 knots
    Speed (electric) 15 knots
    Range 3,450 miles
    Torpedoes on board 6
    Depth of dive 985 feet
    Crew 26 men

The years 1972 and 1973 saw 3 ex-American boats enter service.

    USS PICKEREL was GIANFRANCO GAZZANA PRIAROGGIA
    USS VALADOR became PRIMO LONGOBARDO
    USS TRIGGER became LIVIO PIOMARTA
