27th OBLT HERMANN HOFFMANN (1365-1990) When he was I.W.O. on U-172, it was HERMANN who took the famous photograph of Table Mountain (Capetown, South Africa) through the periscope as they entered Capetown Harbor. He later commanded U-172 when his Skipper CARL EMMERMANN (315-+-1987) was promoted off the boat
