DOC. BROWN (265-A-1987) is trying to find some information for a friend. Here is the transcript of an incident report: Accident No. 043: PBY from Pensacola on routine search patrol reported missing Friday, June 5, 1942. Ten men aboard. A man from Plantation, FL reported that accident no. 043 on the map was a PBY shot down by a U-Boat in the Gulf of Mexico. He said that five crew were captured, including the Plane Captain (name not known) and pilot Ensign Bird. They were released as POWs after the war, the Plane Commander’s wife had never been notified and she remarried in Memphis, TN. It sounds like just another of those old wartime rumors without foundation, but does anyone have any information of this incident?
