US Navy submarine veteran. He rode USS BLOWER (SS 325) and USS BLENNY (SS 324). JIM says: “I reported onboard SS 325 as an Apprentice Seaman (the lowest rate in the Fleet!). They put me to work in the lower bilge with an oil rag, but I didn’t care. It was a great time of life. We were young and there was lots of excitement - I was in tall cotton; the year was 1946.” JIM was with us for our historic first SHARKHUNTERS trip to China in 1992.

One of a very few U-Bootfahrer who did not volunteer. He writes:

“I was commanded to Pillau for a U-Boat course and training. I did not volunteer!!!! Nobody had asked me if I would like to go into the U-Bootwaffe!!!! I was forced!!!! I was commanded to the 5th U-BootFlotille in Kiel and so were several of my buddies. I was then commanded onto a TYPE IX boat with 5 civilians on board and sent on a trip to Japan. We never made it because we were badly damaged and crawled back to a little French port. After a long vacation, I was commanded to my last boat, U-3030 which was a TYPE XXI boat.”
