In this section, we cover actions of some of the submarines of the Italian Navy and the I.J.N. Any additional information is welcome.

ITALIAN BOATS

On 12 Aug, 1942 the Italian submarine BRONZO under TV Caesare Buldrini attacked the 13,688 ton British steamer EMPIRE HOPE and after 55 seconds of run time, observed one torpedo hit. Damage to EMPIRE HOPE was so great she had to be sunk by one of the escorts.

On 10 December, 1943 BRONZO (still under Buldrini) claimed an attack with torpedoes on an unidentified destroyer. They heard one detonation after one minute and 25 seconds; then another after 14 minutes. No confirmation of any hits

On 3 November 1942 the Italian submarine CAGNI under CF Carlo Liannazza, sank the 3,845 ton British motorship DAGOMBA in a torpedo attack.

On 29 November, 1942 CAGNI, still under Liannazza, sank the 1,995 ton Greek steamer ARGO.

On 12 July, 1943 CAGNI, now commanded by CC Giuseppe Roselli-Lorenzini, attacked an unidentified 5,000 ton steamer with three torpedoes and reported one hit. There is no confirmation.

On 25 July, 1943 CAGNI, still under Roselli-Lorenzini, reported an attack against a large carrier escorted by three destroyers. CAGNI actually attacked and damaged the 22,048 British armed merchant cruiser ASTURIAS.

I.J.N. BOATS

On 8 June, 1942 the I.J.N. submarine I-18 under KK K. Otani, sank the 2,158 ton Norwegian steamer WILFORD.

On 1 July, I-18 (still under Otani) damaged the Netherlands steamer ALCHIBA which was later sunk by I-10.

On 1 July, I-18 sank the 1,805 ton Neth. steamer DE WEERT

On 8 July, I-18 sank the 7,341 ton British steamer MUNDRA.
