Submarines on Display

U-505

by Dick Cole

DICK COLE (204-A-1986) has compiled a list of the various submarines on display and where to find them. Here we read you may visit U-505 at the MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY (324-1987) in Chicago. This is the only TYPE IX-C open to the public and until U-534 was raised recently, was the only IX-C in the world. U-505 is beautifully maintained by the MUSEUM and we often have SHARKHUNTERS gatherings on board her.

It is interesting to note that this was the first enemy Man-O-War to be boarded and captured on the high seas by the U. S. Navy since HMS PEACOCK was taken in the Sunda Straits in 1815 during the WAR OF 1812.

Many thanks for this great list DICK.
