The 22nd winner of the OAK LEAF CLUSTER to the KNIGHTS CROSS was Kapitänleutnant Albrecht Brandi, C.O.of U-617, U-380 and U-967..
He was known as ‘Cherry” Brandi; born 20 June, 1914 in Dortmund and was Class of 1933. His ultimate rank was Fregattenkapitän. He served on U-552 under TOPP as a command trainee (Kommandandschuler).
It has been said by several U-Bootfahrer that Brandi was his own best press korps. He was awarded his OAK LEAF CLUSTER on 11 April, 1943. He was the 22nd in the Kriegsmarine to receive the OAK LEAVES and the 224th in the whole German military.
