The President's Corner

Editorial

STUPID DESTRUCTION OF HISTORY

There is an attitude, a rather stupid and pervasive attitude, that to destroy; to actually BLOW UP something that is even remotely connected with a historical event will somehow make the effects of the original deed or group or person go away. By blowing up the Coliseum in Rome, the conquests of Caesar would never have happened; to destroy the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg will make the centuries of the Czars disappear; to burn the birthplace of John Wilkes Booth will bring Abraham Lincoln back to life.

Obviously, none of this will happen and nobody even thinks this is possible. But there seems to be a different attitude connected to any relics in Germany. There is always some misguiged person who thinks it is okay to blow up this building or that place because it just happened to exist during the years of WW II. You will read further in this issue what is meant by this editorial.
