GERRY RICHTER (214-LIFE-1986) was radioman on U-81 for more than a few war patrols, then he transferred into the small weapons groups and was Skipper of his own U-Boat - a one man submarine of 6.5 tons (a BIBER) with two torpedoes slung below. GERRY sent this photo which is the only existing badge of this Flotilla in existence. It was hand-carved by two midshipmen, both were BIBER pilots, and given to GERRY for safekeeping. The badge consists of a beaver’s head (BIBER is German for beaver) surrounded by the figure 13. Why 13? Add the numbers in the Flotilla: 2 + 6 + 5 = 13. Thanks GERRY.
