Corrections

That's the header that means we have corrections to make from a previous issue of our KTB Magazine, and we have a few this time.

It was not I-52

Here is a letter from YOYA KAWAMURA (1739-LIFE-1991) that is self-explanatory. He writes:

"What you wrote in KTB #114 about the 'TREASURE' of I-52 is not wholly right. In the first place, the I-52 never reached Lorient. It was sunk by US Navy planes from the carrier USS BOGUE on 23rd July, 1944. That was six days before it was due in Lorient."

YOYA is correct - I got the numbers wrong. It was a different Japanese I-Boat that made it to the French base, and we covered that voyage about five years ago in our KTB Magazine. Thanks for the correction YOYA; my apologies to our readers for the error

from 'SILENT' OTTO

Here is a portion of a letter which we received a while ago from OTTO KRETSCHMER (122-LIFE-1985). It reads:

".....a misprint in one of my letters which was repeated in KTB #108. It is very important to correct it as soon as possible.

On page 7 the last paragraph reads - - different sea areas, when (with U-99) I was sent for the first time into the Western Atlantic. I went to U-Boat Command . . . .

The term Western Atlantic must be replaced by the term Western Approaches (to the British Isles) which means the most eastern part of the North Atlantic Ocean."

My guess is that I misread the letter myself & made the error here, but in any event, here is the correction direct from the Skipper.
