U-124

The Edelweissboot

by Harry Cooper

(continued from KTB #113)

Remember, this famous and successful boat had two Skippers over her career. The first was WILHELM SCHULZ (162-+-1986) and the emblem of the boat under his command was the beautiful Edelweiss blossom. The reason was covered in KTB #113 last month. The second Skipper was Jochen Mohr, and his tower emblem was the frog seen here. In respect for his former Skipper, Mohr left the Edelweiss blossom on both sides of the tower and put the frog on the front of the tower.

A photo shot from the deck of U-124 at the raider PYTHON when they met in the South Atlantic. An interesting sidelight - The 'Ship's Song' of U-124 was 'ALEXANDER'S RAGTIME BAND'.
