Far-East Boats

U-1059

by Harry Cooper

From the information sent by WERNER K. HOFFMANN (327-LIFE-1987) we learn that U-1059 carried a load of torpedoes to the Far East. This was a very rare TYPE VII-F and was dispatched to the Indonesian area (Djakarta) with this cargo.

She did not make it out of the Atlantic, as US Navy planes of VC.6 flying off USS BLOCK ISLAND sank her with all hands lost, off the Cape Verde Islands on 19 March, 1944.
