French Submarine Beveziers

On 25 September, 1940 the French submarine BÉVÉZIERS under Lancelot, attacked & damaged the 29,150 ton Royal Navy battleship HMS RESOLUTION. BÉVÉZIERS was a Vichy French sub & torpedoed HMS RESOLUTION as she was supporting the Free French attack on Dakar.

Built by Dubigeon shipyards at Nantes between 1927 - 1932.
Displacement: 1,570/2084 tons
Dimensions: 302' 9" x 26' 11" x 15'6"
Machinery: 2 diesel engines, either Sulzer or Schneider & two electric motors
Power (diesel): 7,200 hp
(electric): 1,000 hp
Speed (diesel): 20 knots
(electric): 10 knots
Range (diesel): 10,000 miles @ 10 knots or
(diesel): 4,000 miles @ max speed
(electric): 100 miles @ 5 knots
Guns: single 3.0 inch 40 cal deck gun
AA Guns: two single 13.2mm machine guns
Crew: 61

BÉVÉZIERS was lost in the Indian Ocean in May of 1942 during the attack on Madagascar, through attack of surface ship or ships.
