USS S-22 (SS 127) was EB 73 C design

She was built by Fore River Shipbuilding;
Her keel was laid 6 January, 1919;
She was launched 15 July, 1920;
Her Sponsor was Mrs. Mark C. Bowman;
She was commissioned 23 June, 1924;
Her first Skipper was Lt John Forshew;

History:

January 1942, USS S-22 patrolled out of the Panama Canal Zone.
17 April, 1942, she returned to New London for preparations for transfer to Great Britain.
19 June 1942, she was decommissioned and loaned to Great Britain where she became HMS P.544.
11 July 1944, she was returned to the US Navy at Phila. Navy Yard and she was used as a sonar target at New London and in tests at the US Naval Experimental Facility in Minas Basin
In August 1945, USS S-22 was struck from the Navy list and on 16 November, 1945 was sold for scrap to North American Smelting in Philadelphia.

No ships were sunk by USS S-22. Her Skipper on War Patrol #1 was G. H. Wales, but there is no record of her Skipper(s) for the second and third war Patrols.

USS S-23 (SS 128) was EB 73 C design

She was built by Fore River Shipbuilding;
Her keel was laid 18 January, 1919;
She was launched 27 October, 1920;
Her Sponsor was Miss Barbara Sears;
She was commissioned 30 October, 1923;
Her first Skipper was Lt J. Y. Dreinsonstok;

History:

27 January 1942, USS S-23 began patrolling out of Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands with Lt. John R. 'Jack" Pierce in command
In April 1943, she was returned to San Francisco for extensive overhaul, after which she began providing training services o the West Coast Sound School until the end of the War
2 Nov 1945, USS S-23 was decommissioned at San Francisco and struck from the Navy list. She was delivered for scrapping on 15 November, 1946 to Salco Iron and Metal in San Francisco.

No ships were sunk by USS S-23. Her Skipper for War Patrols 1, 2 and 3 was J. R. Pierce; for War Patrols 4 and 5 it was H. E. Duryea; and for War Patrols 6, 7 and 8 it was H. E. Ruble.

USS S-23 earned one BATTLE STAR for World War II.
