ART FLEMING (2745--1993) began his ETERNAL PATROL on Tuesday, 25 April this year. ART was in Show Business from the time he was only four years of age. He starred in many films and did stunts as well. He was the stunt double for Ralph Bellamy in more than one movie. He is probably best known as the first host of the hit television game show JEOPARDY from 1964 and running an unprecedented and unbroken 12 years. During the War, ART was a Naval aviator, flying a PBY CATALINA on ASW patrol off Florida. Early in April this year, ART was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was told that he had very little time remaining. He died two weeks later at the age of 70 years. Sail on in peace ART, with a fair wind always at your back. JUDE STACKPOLE PhD (1934-1990) was a serious student of the codes, intercepts and general 'spook' stuff of World War II. He was firmly convinced that the German U-Boat codes, TRITON and others, were never cracked by the Allies but were in fact, sold to the Allies by a traitor. Was there such a traitor? If so, who was he? What were the details of this exchange? We will never know. One sunny Saturday morning a few months ago, JUDE was quietly enjoying a ride on his motorcycle when a 19-year-old kid blew through a red light. Apparently JUDE never saw him. Fair winds to you JUDE, and I hope the archive where you now are has the details to help you solve this riddle.
