Grau Wulf Wavesweeper Ostwind

Some time ago, we reported the story of the OSTWIND, one of the sailing yachts built for the Olympics. This yacht languished away in a boatyard until there was almost nothing left but the decking and some ribs. Abe Resnick, the Mayor of Miami Beach, got some goofy idea to buy this pile of wood, called it 'Hitler's Yacht', then ship it on a barge to a point off Miami Beach & shove it overboard as some sort of memorial. They pushed it onto a living coral reef, which caused Resnick and his people no end of trouble.

Now to the question - another of these racing yachts, we are told, was named 'GRAU WULF', then was taken by the Luftwaffe and called 'WAVESWEEPER' or the German equivalent. We were recently contacted by a newspaper reporter from the American northwest about this second yacht, 'WAVESWEEPER' with some questions. It seems that this yacht was bought by someone who keeps it in a dockyard in Oregon, and it is currently for sale.

Who can tell us anything about this yacht; or any of her sister-yachts that were built for the Olympics? Please let us know & we'll pass it on to the reporter. In advance, vielen dank - many thanks.

Where is Karl Wisniewski?

WHO is Karl Wisniewski, you may ask? He was the only survivor of U-183 when that boat was sunk by USS BESUGO (SS 321) in the Java sea. Karl was the navigator of U-183 & several Members have asked over the years, and we are asking again - who can tell us - is he alive yet today? Where is he? Any other information?

SS CEDAR MOUNTAIN, SS ERIC V. HAUSER

These were the ships on which the father of TOM PRIMERANO (3716-1994) served, while in the US Navy ARMED GUARD. TOM is trying to get information on these ships for his father, but has so far been unsuccessful.

How about it, you veterans of the ARMED GUARD - who will dig up the history of these two ships - their sailing histories, what convoys, where did they sail, when - we need everything on these ships for TOM and his dad. Thanks in advance. USS S-45 and H. H. McLean

Our Member DAVID BUEHN (1742-1991) has a model of this boat (photo above) and the inscription on the plaque reads:

"To Lieut. H. H. McLean, USN From Officers and Crew/ April 1933"

Who was McLean? What was his career? What was USS S-45 doing in 1933? What other details can anyone provide? Thanks.

"Die Hitlerjunge Quex"

We know this was a famous propaganda movie of the War years. One of our Members is interested in its history and its star.

"Movie Historian seeking friends, relatives or co-workers of Jürgen "Quex" Ohlsen and his sister, Waltraudt. Ohlsen was the Hitlerjunge star of the UFA film DIE HITLERJUNGE QUEX. Anyone with information on any of these two persons willing to share their memories would be greatly appreciated."
