U-859 seen from the deck of another boat in mid-ocean. JOHN is not a citizen of that country, but he, along with HORST KLATT (4234-1995) and others of their team, are there to recover the treasure from the SS JOHN BARRY which was sunk by U-859. HORST rode U-859 during the War as II. W. O. Treasure? Yes, SS JOHN BARRY had loaded aboard some $300 million (1944 value) worth of silver, consisting of 300,000,000 silver Saudi Rials and the rest in silver bars. Cut-away drawing of SS JOHN BARRY So far, this group (which is affiliated with JAY FIONDELLA (1072-1989)) has recovered 1.5 million of the silver Rials, but another 1.5 million of these coins remains on the wreck at 6,000 feet. What of the silver bars? JAY tells us they believe the ingots are aboard SS JOHN BARRY - but they are not totally sure! We will keep you posted on this salvage operation as new news comes available.
