U-505 and Operation Paukenschlag?

U-Boats Attack America

Data sent by Charles A. Thompson (519-1988)

What has U-505 to do with 'Operation PAUKENSCHLAG', the first attack by U-Boats off the American east coast? Absolutely NOTHING! So why is this mentioned here?

Over the years, I had written articles for various magazines and one of them was 'SEA CLASSICS', published by Challenge Publications. Even though my cover letters specifically state the magazine could publish the article ONE TIME ONLY, they seem to forget this little detail, which I suspect, is convenient for them, and publish these old articles again and again.

Challenge Publications has recently come out with a special edition, entitled "U-BOATS AT WAR!" in which they reproduce a very old article I wrote, but they ran photos that have nothing to do with 'Operation PAUKENSCHLAG'. In fact, the first photo in the piece shows U-505 sinking an unnamed ship in the Caribbean, but the caption says that it is an American ship being sunk by U-505 off the Americas in 'PAUKENSCHLAG'. I have no idea where the magazine came up with that glaring and stupid error, but I assure our readers, it did not come from here.
