History - USS S-16 was one of eleven new S-Boats that participated in a seven month voyage from the east coast of the US to Manila, Philippine Islands. On 22 May, 1935 she was decommissioned; on 2 December, 1940 she was recommissioned and on 1 March, 1941 S-16 was assigned to the Submarine Base at St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. On 5 August, 1942 she was assigned to SubRon One based in New London under command of LT. O. E. Hagberg.
USS S-16 was decommissioned on 4 October, 1944 and on 3 April 1945, she was scuttled off Key West (Florida) at 24.25N x 82.02W.
