She was built by Lake Torpedoboat Company (Bridgeport); was a government design
Her keel was laid 13 December, 1917;
She was launched 8 March, 1920;
Her Sponsor was Mrs. Simon Lake;
She was commissioned 15 January, 1921;
Her first Skipper was LCDR David R. Lee;
History - decommissioned 22 May, 1935; recommissioned 3 January, 1941 and S-15 conducted defensive patrols out of the Virgin Islands, Trinidad, Guantanimo Bay (Cuba) and Panama during World War II. On 5 August, 1942 S-15 was assigned to SubRon Three based at Coco Solo under LT. F. C. Acker. 11 June, 1945 S-15 was decommissioned at Philadelphia Navy Yard and struck from the NAVY LIST and she was sold for scrap on 12 April, 1946 to Potomac Shipwrecking in Maryland.
