North Korean Fox Trot Boats

Russia Sells Submarines

by Harry Cooper

Some months ago, we reported that Russia was selling a quantity of aging FOX TROT submarines to North Korea and we wondered why. In fact, we sent our question to the two men in the world to best answer this question - ADMIRAL FRANK KELSO (2919-1993), the former CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS for the US NAVY; and FLEET ADMIRAL VLADIMIR CHERNAVIN (2240-1992), the former CHIEF OF THE MAIN STAFF of the SOVIET NAVY. We printed ADMIRAL KELSO’s answer a few months ago.

Here is what FLEET ADMIRAL CHERNAVIN tells us:

“As to information concerning sales to the North Korea of our old submarines, I can confirm that only the corpses of old submarines with fully dismantled armament and assigned for metal were sold there. It goes without saying that these corpses are unfit for further use as floating means as they are very worn-out and can’t be restored. So they don’t present any threat to anybody. But for us such kinds of deals help solve the problem of utilization of old ships and submarines and add some money to the fleet’s budget.

I think this information will calm down the Magazine’s readers and exonerate all suspicions in deceit from participants of this trade deal.”
