Other “Black” Ships

Triton, Uruguay

by Harry Cooper

In addition to the suspected ‘BLACK’ U-Boats and the ‘BLACK’ ship OURANG MEDAN that made the secret voyages from Spain to South America in the final years of the War - AND AFTER, there are two other ‘BLACK’ ships for which we are seeking information. Who can tell us anything about the ship:

TRITON: Built in 1902, she was formerly YUNQUE in 1935. This 1,600 ton ship made several ‘unusual’ voyages in 1937 and 1938, but then she seems to have disappeared without any trace. Who knows of TRITON?

Another possible ‘BLACK’ ship is the 8,992 ton passenger ship URUGUAY. Built in 1905, this ship had berthing for 5,000 passengers & prior to the outbreak of the War, this ship made several ‘unusual’ voyages, similar to those made by TRITON and OURANG MEDAN. She was last seen, perhaps we should say she was last REPORTED, departing Barcelona, Spain in December, 1939 and then suddenly, she disappeared! Rumor was that she was in the Spanish or German secret service in ‘BLACK’ patrols. Who knows anything about OURANG MEDAN, TRITON and URUGUAY? Please let us know.
