Thanks to NEIL SELMER (858-LIFE-1988) for a copy of his uncle’s War log book. His uncle served aboard the Socony Vacuum tanker SS CADDO which was torpedoed on 23 November, 1942 by U-518. He spent 23 days aboard U-518, arrived at Lorient on 15 December, 1942 and arrived Wilhelmhaven on 17 December. This is a really great piece of history, as the booklet tells the entire story of the sinking, the capture and internment. Many thanks, NEIL. PETE PETERSEN (1113-A-1989), you rode U-518 for a time; were you part of the crew at this time? If so, please let us know your memories of this action, of the prisoners aboard, anything at all that you remember will be of great interest. Thanks in advance.
