She was built by Portsmouth Naval Shipyards; a government design
Final fate - decommissioned 30 September, 1936; recommissioned 28 October, 1940 and USS S-13 was sent to conduct defensive patrols out of Trinidad, Guntanimo Bay, and Panama during World War II; on 5 August, 1942 she was assigned to SubRon Three based at Coco Solo and the Skipper was LCDR D. L. Whelchel; she was decommissioned on 10 April, 1945 at Philadelphia Navy Yard and on 19 May, 1945 was struck from the Navy list and sold for scrap to Rostoff Brothers and resold to Northern Metals in Philadelphia.
D. L. Wheeler was Commanding Officer for the first three patrols, and K. R. Wheland was Skipper for the last one.
