Italian Sub Alagi On 12 July, 1942 the Italian submarine ALAGI under command of TV Sergio Puccini, sank the 3,723 GRT Turkish steam tanker ANTARES. On 12 August, 1942 ALAGI, still under command of Puccini, fired at what they assumed were a cruiser or a destroyer, and a transport. They did hit & damage the 8,000 ton ROYAL NAVY light cruiser HMS KENYA and they sank the 7,347 GRT British steamer CLAN FERGUSON. On 16 July, 1943 ALAGI, still under Puccini, fired at what they thought was a destroyer and after a run of 1 minute 45 seconds, they heard one detonation. There is no confirmation. All these actions of ALAGI took place in the Mediterranean, and ALAGI made no other attacks on any shipping during World War II. Japanese Sub I-3 On 1 March 1942, the I.J.N. submarine I-3 under command of KzS Tonozuka (who later commanded I-10), attacked a medium ship and claimed she was sunk. There was no confirmation. On 7 April 1942, I-3, still under Tonozuka, attacked and damaged the 4,872 GRT British steamer ELMDALE. On 8 April 1942, I-3, still under Tonozuka, sank the 5,051 GRT British motorship FULTALA. All these actions of I-3 took place in the Indian Ocean, and I-3 made no other attacks on any shipping during World War II.
