Members Meeting Other Members

Rita Clare and Ed Cornely

Trip

RITA CLARE (1571-A-1990) served with the 22nd U-Boot-Flotille, and the 2nd U-Boot-Lehr-Division during the War, in the payroll office. When she went back to Germany in March this year, we gave her the names of some of our SHARKHUNTERS Members in the area she was visiting. When she telephoned GEORG HOGEL (240-1987), she learned that there would soon be a local TREFFEN (a meeting) of the U-Boat veterans in that area. Also, it seems that some of the veterans RITA knew from Gdingen in the Danzig Bay area will be there -- friends she has not seen in 50 years! To our friend GEORG HOGEL (240-1987) and other friends of that U/K, vielen dank for your hospitality to our mutual friend & SHARKHUNTERS Member, RITA. And RITA, we are glad we could help you find former friends.

Dinner Meeting

I took my family to dinner at a local restaurant on the ocean, sort of a mixture of "quaint" & "redneck" all rolled into one. During our meal, our favorite waitress, who was off-duty, was sitting with us and I was telling her all about SHARKHUNTERS. I also told her we had a Magazine that told all about submarine history, especially history of the German U-Boats of World War II. A man at the next table looked over his shoulder and said "It's a great magazine," and went back to his meal.

As you might imagine, I was surprised, and asked how he knew about our Magazine, to which he replied: "I read the KTB each month. I'm Member (3052-1993)."

CAPTAIN ED CORNELY was visiting a friend in our area, and by sheer coincidence, we were seated at the next table in this out-of-the-way restaurant in Hillbilly Heaven. I guess SHARKHUNTERS really is getting VERY big, as Members are always meeting one another by chance.

ED, the socks are working - thanks.
