Italian Sub Adua On 17 June, 1940 the Italian submarine ADUA under command of C.C. Guiseppe Roselli-Lorenzini, fired torpedoes at a large steamer and although they heard a detonation, there was no confirmation of a hit. On 30 June, 1941 the submarine ADUA, now under command of T.V. Luigi Riccardi, fired at the escort of a carrier task force and although they heard detonations, there was no confirmation of a hit. The Italian submarine ADUA made no other attacks on any shipping at any time during World War II. Japanese Sub I-2 11 March, 1942, the I.J.N. submarine I-2 under command of K.K. Hiroshi Inada, sank the 4,360 GRT British steamer SS CHILKA. On 7 April, 1942, I-2 reported sinking a medium-size ship sunk, but there was no confirmation. On 1 November, 1943 I-2, now under command of KL M. Itakura, claimed one transport sunk but there was no confirmation. The I.J.N. submarine I-2 made no other attacks on any shipping at any time during World War II.
