Myrmidon Press Announces Armageddon RPG

Following the success of the Witchcraft RPG, Myrmdion Press is preparing to launch a new RPG set in the same gaming universe. Armageddon, as the project is tenatively called, takes place some twenty years after the events in Witchcraft.

"Armageddon borrows themes from Christian and mythological tales and legends," said lead designer C.J. Carella. "The End Times that are hinted at in Witchcraft finally come true... as a global war marks the beginning of the Angel Wars and Ragnarok." Players will have the opportunity to portray human beings, as well as Seraphim, Avatars of the Old Gods, and the demi-god inerhitors. Carella promises a high degree of flexibility, both in setting and game play.

Renowned artists Timothy Bradstreet and Mark A. Nelson have been slated to do the interior art, with a cover painting by Bradstreet and Grant. A 250 page softcover book, Armageddon will retail for $25.00, and is scheduled for release at Gen Con '97.

Interplay's Descent to Undermountain Nearing Release

Interplay, Inc. is nearing completion of Descent to Undermontain, a fast-paced action game in TSR's "Forgotten Realms" setting. In DTU, players will encounter 35 different polygon monsters, 50 different weapons, 40 spells, and 100 magic items. "We've taken all the aspects of an RPG and made an action game out of them," said Bill Church, the producer of DTU.

DTU promises to deliver plenty of action in its 20-level dungeon. "There have been raids into the city of Waterdeep from Undermountain, and Lord Kelvin sends you in to find out what's happening," added Church. Players will have to go toe-to-toe with everything from kobolds to dragons to solve the mystery.

DTU uses a modified version of the enormously popular Descent engine. Conversation and inventory management have been added, as well as polygon swordplay and monsters. "We tweaked the AI one more time and revamped the lighting model too," said Church. "The game will run fine on a 486-66, but the target system is a low-end Pentium."

Descent to Undermountain will be released this January. Interplay is also commited to developing a Forgotten Realms RPG, as well as two Planescape games. No release dates have yet been set for these products.

Two Great Tastes that Taste Great Together

Lord of the Realm II, from Sierra On-Line, is a blend of two of today's most popular types of computer games. In a nod to the Civilization genre, you must build up your kingdom by carefully managing its economy, military, and foreign relations. When things get a bit rocky, as they are apt to, you get to indulge in some Warcraft-style combat. LORII should be available at software stores everywhere for about $40.
